The VOICE of the VALLEY

WMRW was started in 2003 when the FCC awarded Rootswork a permit to build a low-powered FM (LPFM) station at the old East Warren Schoolhouse.  Rootswork is a local grassroots non-profit organization devoted to promoting sustainable agriculture and community.  The schoolhouse is located at the East Warren Four Corners, the intersection of East Warren Road and the Roxbury Mountain Road.

Why can't I tune WMRW-LP in???

If it was up to us we would be operating at a million megawatts, but alas we have a low-power license and that limits us to just 100 watts.  100 watts would work just fine if we were in a flat (and boring) terrain, but these beautiful mountains that our homes and businesses are nestled in make coverage of the Valley a challenge.

Below is a coverage map to give you an idea of where we technically should be able to be heard.

So....I want to listen!  What can I do?

If you are not able to tune us in, here are a couple suggestions:

  1. Waitsfield Cable carries our signal as part of their FM line-up to their customers.  If you go to their office, they will provide you with a splitter and cables so that you can split your cable signal to go to your TV and your stereo/radio.  They will also give you detailed instructions on how to do this - and it is REALLY easy!

FM Only Cable Subscriptions

For just $4.65 a month you can receive FM only cable service. This means that if you don't care to subscribe to TV Cable you can still receive WMRW and many other Vermont radio stations clear as a bell through Waitsfield Cable.

  1. If cable is not an option, an antenna could do the trick for you.  All radios have different strength/quality antennae's.  Sometimes you can't even see the antennae on your radio - it might be in the electric cord.  So, try moving around the electric cord or antennae that came with the radio and see if that makes a difference.  If not, we recommend getting a $2.50 dipole antenna from the local hardware store. Listeners have had tremendous success with these antennas.  Tip: Point the antenna tips toward East Warren to get the best reception.

Coverage Map

This map shows our estimate of the area that the WMRW signal covers. It was based on our original FCC license to broadcast at a signal strength of up to 73 watts. Our license has been upgraded to 100 watts, so coverage may be broader than what this map shows.
